CUMBERLAND, Md. — A 47-year-old Cumberland man was arrested on Thursday after a series of disturbances and erratic driving incidents that culminated in his refusal to stop for police, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Officers responded to a call regarding an active disturbance on the 900 block of Gay Street on Thanksgiving evening, where they encountered Thomas Michael Wiggington Jr., who was later observed driving a vehicle with its hazard lights flashing at approximately five miles per hour.

Police said Wiggington ignored repeated requests to stop, instead gesturing at officers while swerving erratically, nearly hitting parked vehicles and structures before eventually pulling into a business parking lot on Park Street. Once there, Wiggington allegedly refused further commands, insulted officers, and continued to resist before being forcibly removed from his vehicle.

Investigators determined that Wiggington was under the influence of an unidentified substance at the time of the incidents, authorities said. He was arrested and taken to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he was held pending a court appearance.

Wiggington is facing multiple charges, including disorderly conduct, failure to obey, disturbing the peace, and driving under the influence.
