D.C. man’s Racetrax winning streak continues with a $30K prize aimed at funding his grandkids’ futures

Brentwood, Md. — A retired railroad employee from Washington, D.C., has claimed his third major Racetrax prize in Maryland, winning $30,879 on a longshot bet he purchased at AJ Liquors in Brentwood.

The D.C. resident, a fan of the Maryland Lottery’s animated horse racing game, said Racetrax has been the source of all three of his big wins. “If I’m buying a Lottery ticket in Maryland, you can be sure it’s Racetrax,” he told officials, noting that this latest win is his largest yet.

He purchased the winning ticket during a shopping trip in early June but only discovered the prize hours later when checking the results. “It was a real shocker,” he said. “More so even than the other times I’ve won.”

The lucky winner, who usually avoids longshot bets, may reconsider his strategy after this streak of success. “Three of my biggest wins have been on them,” he said, hinting he might play longshot horses more often in the future.

The District resident plans to put his winnings toward his grandchildren’s education. AJ Liquors, located at 3801 Bladensburg Road, will receive a $308.79 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
