Phone thief busted moments after daylight robbery in busy Northwest DC corridor
WASHINGTON, DC – A broad-daylight phone snatching in Northwest DC ended almost as quickly as it began Tuesday afternoon after officers closed in on the suspect just moments after the robbery unfolded near a bustling stretch of 9th Street.
Shortly after 1 p.m., a woman was seated along the 700 block of 9th Street, Northwest, when a man suddenly grabbed her phone and fled on foot. Officers responding to the scene quickly canvassed the area and located the suspect nearby. The victim’s phone was recovered at the time of the arrest.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Kevin Gudiel, who has no fixed address, was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with robbery, according to officials.
The area around 9th Street is home to several offices, shops, and restaurants, and sees steady pedestrian traffic throughout the day. Police did not report any injuries during the incident.
