HAMBURG, IA—A high-speed chase on Hwy 275 resulted in the arrest of Troy Decker, 50, from Kingman, Arizona, after Fremont County deputies stopped a stolen 2004 Chevrolet Suburban on July 29 around 3:30 pm. The vehicle was intercepted northbound in the 2600 block of Hwy 275 where a felony traffic stop was executed.

Decker, the driver, was arrested when he and two pit bulls exited the vehicle. The dogs attacked a deputy during the incident, resulting in severe injuries. After securing the dogs, Decker was detained without further complications.

The injured deputy was immediately taken to a local hospital by Sidney Rescue and has since been released, now recovering at home. The Suburban was identified as stolen from Nebraska City, Nebraska, and it had license plates stolen from Clarinda, Iowa.

Decker faces charges including second-degree theft, possession of methamphetamine, and possessing dangerous animals. He is currently held at the Fremont County Jail with a bond set at $6,000 cash only. Additional charges are anticipated.

Meanwhile, the pit bulls are at a local veterinary clinic pending results for infectious diseases.
