ATV crackdown in Gloucester Township leads to arrest, drug charge and dirt bike seizure

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – A plainclothes ATV enforcement operation aimed at curbing illegal dirt bike activity ended with the arrest of a Sicklerville man, who police say was found with methamphetamine and an active warrant out of Camden County.

On Saturday afternoon, officers from the Gloucester Township Police Department were conducting surveillance in the Breckenridge development after multiple reports of reckless dirt bike use in the neighborhood. Officers were positioned in unmarked vehicles and operating in plainclothes when they observed a man riding a dirt bike near St. Moritz Drive and Breckenridge Drive around 4:00 p.m.

The man, identified as Matthew G. Perry, 35, was stopped by police. During the stop, officers discovered Perry had an outstanding warrant issued by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office for unrelated charges. Upon taking him into custody, they also located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine in his possession.

The dirt bike Perry was riding was unregistered and uninsured, according to investigators, and was towed from the scene.

Perry was transported to Gloucester Township Police Headquarters, where he was charged with 3rd-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, issued multiple motor vehicle citations, and remanded to the Camden County Jail pending a court hearing on the outstanding warrant.

The operation was part of a focused response to complaints from residents about ongoing illegal riding and neighborhood disturbances.
