Disabled truck on George Washington Bridge causes lane closure as NJ roads see delays

July 3, 2025

NEWARK, N.J. — A disabled tractor trailer on the George Washington Bridge westbound upper level was blocking one right lane of the Upper Trans Manhattan Expressway in Manhattan during the morning rush as of 8:19 a.m., contributing to regional slowdowns across the New Jersey commute.

On the New Jersey Turnpike, a crash on the outer roadway northbound just north of Interchange 11 near the Garden State Parkway in Woodbridge Township caused vehicles to move to the right shoulder by 8:10 a.m. All lanes remained open.

In Somerset County, a vehicle fire on I-78 westbound near Exit 29 for I-287/US 202/US 206 in Bedminster Township closed one of four lanes as of 7:55 a.m. Emergency services were on scene managing the incident.

Roving road repairs continued in Camden County along US 30 eastbound in Pennsauken Township, from east of County Road 608 (Baird Boulevard) to CR 628 (North Park Drive). One of three lanes was closed as of 7:30 a.m.

Traffic delays were reported on the Garden State Parkway express lanes southbound in Holmdel Township, stretching two miles between Exits 116 and 114 due to volume. All lanes remained open, according to an 8:13 a.m. update.

Westbound I-280 experienced delays between Harrison and Newark, from east of the Stickel Drawbridge to just before Exit 15 for NJ 21. No lanes were closed.

A one-mile volume-related delay was also reported on the Garden State Parkway southbound in Cranford Township between Exits 137 and 136. Additionally, NJ 17 northbound saw heavy traffic from south of I-80 in Lodi to south of Passaic Street in Rochelle Park.

Delays were noted on NJ 3 westbound in Clifton between the Garden State Parkway and US 46, and on NJ 21 northbound from Exit 13 to Exit 14 in Clifton. All lanes remained open on both highways.

Morning commuters across New Jersey faced lane closures and delays due to crashes, volume, and ongoing repairs.
