Don’t Be a Turkey: Montgomery County Police ramp up DUI enforcement for holiday season

ROCKVILLE, MD – Montgomery County Police say their Alcohol Holiday Task Force is fully activated and focusing on identifying and arresting impaired drivers through the end of the year.

Between November 19 and 22, officers conducted 177 traffic stops as part of the seasonal enforcement campaign.

The task force issued 201 citations, 194 warnings, and 19 repair orders during the four-day period.

Police said the specialized unit also performed eight breath tests, conducted three drug recognition evaluations, and made 25 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Guns recovered during enforcement sweep

In addition to the DUI arrests, officers recovered two firearms during traffic stops. One civil citation was also issued as part of the operation.

The Alcohol Holiday Task Force is a joint effort involving officers from across the county who focus solely on impaired driving prevention during the holidays.

County police warn of increased patrols

Officials emphasized that the numbers released only reflect arrests made by task force members and not those made by regular patrol officers, meaning the overall number of DUI arrests is higher.

Police urged motorists to plan ahead for safe transportation options, noting that DUI enforcement efforts will continue throughout the holiday season.

Montgomery County Police reported 25 DUI arrests and two firearm recoveries during the first week of their holiday impaired driving enforcement effort.
