DWI crash suspect tracked by K9 after fleeing into woods with firearms

Driver flees into woods after Mount Misery Road wreck

PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – A 39-year-old Browns Mills man was arrested after allegedly crashing his vehicle into a wooded area and fleeing on foot, leading officers and K9 units to recover two firearms hidden in the woods.

Police responded at approximately 12:41 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Mount Misery Road and Junction Road for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle that had left the roadway and entered a wooded area.

A witness told officers they saw a man exit the vehicle after the crash and run into the woods. Officers established a perimeter, and K9 Patrolman Joseph Peters and K9 Pepper initiated a track for the suspect, later identified as Victor Walle-Madrigal, 39, of Browns Mills.

During the track, K9 Pepper located two firearms in the wooded area approximately 150 yards from the crash scene. K9 Patrolman Zach York and K9 Duco of the New Hanover Township Police Department also assisted in the search.

Walle-Madrigal was later located in the wooded area and taken into custody.

He was charged with obstruction, hindering, tampering with evidence, unlawful possession of a weapon and driving while intoxicated.

The investigation was conducted by Pemberton Township Patrolman Tyler Reynolds Vezos, TSO Patrolman Laura Gould and Detective Adam Chiolan.

The charges are accusations, and Walle-Madrigal is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
