East Brunswick police remind residents to clear streets and sidewalks ahead of snowfall

East Brunswick, NJ – As snow begins to move into the region tonight, the East Brunswick Police Department is reminding residents to remove their vehicles from snow-covered streets to allow plows and emergency vehicles to operate safely.

Under Township Ordinance §209-31, parking is prohibited on any street, avenue, or highway once snow accumulation covers the roadway. The restriction remains in effect until streets are fully plowed and cleared enough for normal traffic flow.

Public Works prioritizing major roads

Police said plow crews will focus first on keeping main roads open for emergency vehicles and safe travel before moving into residential neighborhoods. Residents are urged not to blow or shovel snow into the street, as doing so creates hazardous conditions for other drivers and delays cleanup.

Officials also reminded property owners that snow and ice must be cleared from sidewalks bordering their properties to ensure pedestrian safety.

Vehicle snow removal required by law

Drivers are further advised to remove all ice and snow from their vehicles — including hoods, roofs, and windows — before traveling. Motorists who fail to do so can face fines of $25 to $75 per offense, and up to $1,000 if falling ice or snow causes injury or property damage.

Police said cooperation from residents will help Public Works crews clear roads efficiently and keep travel routes safe through the storm.
