Elderly woman tied up during Salford home invasion; 80-year-old suspect arrested

SALFORD, England – Police have arrested an 80-year-old man after a 95-year-old woman was tied up and threatened during an attempted robbery at her home in Little Hulton, Greater Manchester Police announced Tuesday.

Officers executed a warrant earlier today at a property on Manchester Road in Worsley, where the suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of attempted robbery and false imprisonment. He remains in police custody for questioning.

The incident occurred on January 27, when a man approached the elderly woman’s home under the pretense of asking about bin collection day. He then entered the property, tied her hands together, and demanded money and her purse. Police said the man was interrupted when another woman, who knew the victim, arrived at the scene. The suspect allegedly grabbed the second woman before fleeing the property.

No injuries were reported, and the victim is being supported by officers from the Salford district. Investigators said they believe the attack was an isolated incident and that there is no wider threat to the community.
