Emergency work and delays clog connecticut highways friday morning

HARTFORD, Conn. — Connecticut commuters faced a sluggish start to Friday, with multiple construction zones and heavy congestion reported along key interstates and roadways.

Emergency road work fully closed Route 113 (Lordship Boulevard) in both directions between Access Road and Oak Bluff Avenue in Stratford. The closure, reported Thursday afternoon, remained in effect as of 9:57 a.m.

Significant delays were seen across several major highways. I-95 southbound was heavily congested between Exits 10 and 6, with a 4.4-mile backup reported at 8:20 a.m. Additional slowdowns on I-95 included a 2.6-mile stretch between Exits 26 and 23, and 2.4 miles between Exits 18 and 17.

On I-84 eastbound, traffic was backed up between Exits 46 and 51, covering 1.8 miles. Route 15 southbound was especially impacted, with a 13-mile delay between Exits 44 and 37 reported earlier in the morning.

Ongoing road work contributed to the gridlock. I-384 westbound had a shoulder closure between Exits 4 and 3 through 3:30 p.m. Friday. I-84 westbound also had right shoulder work underway between Exits 74 and 68 over a 16.5-mile stretch, and I-84 eastbound had a similar setup between Exits 64 and 72 covering more than 19 miles. Both projects are scheduled to continue until 4:00 p.m.
