NEWARK, NJ – Kyrell Domnie, a 39-year-old man from Irvington, Essex County, New Jersey, is facing multiple charges related to narcotics distribution and firearms offenses, as announced by U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. Domnie, also known as “Fly Ky,” was charged with a series of drug trafficking and firearm offenses and appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor in Newark federal court on July 17, 2024, where he was detained.
The charges against Domnie include six counts of distributing and possessing with intent to distribute cocaine, one count each for possession with intent to distribute heroin and fentanyl, two counts of firearms trafficking, three counts of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The investigation into Domnie began in December 2023, focusing on his alleged involvement in narcotics distribution and firearms trafficking. Throughout the early months of 2024, law enforcement conducted several controlled purchases of cocaine and handguns from Domnie. Searches conducted in April of Domnie’s apartments and vehicle yielded significant quantities of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and an additional handgun concealed in a vehicle compartment.
Domnie faces severe penalties if convicted. The drug distribution charges could result in up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. The firearms charges could lead to a maximum of 15 years in prison, with each count also carrying a potential $250,000 fine. The charge of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime carries a mandatory minimum of five years, which must be served consecutively to any other sentence, and could extend to life imprisonment.
This case underscores the continued efforts by federal and local law enforcement to address the intertwined issues of drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession in the community.
