Essex County Sheriff’s Office Van Overturns in Garden State Parkway Crash in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD TOWNSHIP, NJ — An Essex County Sheriff’s Office van overturned Saturday morning after a collision with a pickup truck on the Garden State Parkway in Ocean County, sending two people to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

New Jersey State Police responded around 8:16 a.m. to the southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway in Lakewood Township for reports of a motor vehicle crash, according to State Police spokesperson Christopher Postorino.

A preliminary investigation found that a Chevrolet pickup truck struck an Essex County Sheriff’s Office Chevrolet Express van while both vehicles were traveling on the parkway.

Following the impact, the sheriff’s office van overturned on the roadway, police said.

Two Occupants Hospitalized After Van Rolls Over

Authorities said the driver and passenger inside the sheriff’s office van suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials have not released their identities or provided additional details about their conditions.

State police also did not say whether anyone inside the pickup truck was injured.

The crash occurred along one of New Jersey’s busiest highway corridors during the early morning hours, a time when Shore-bound traffic can begin increasing on weekends in Ocean County.
