Evesham Township Standoff Ends with Arrest

EVESHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ – A tense standoff in Evesham Township concluded with the arrest of 56-year-old John G. Fox after several hours of negotiation and police action. The incident, which involved gunfire and a barricaded suspect, occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 17, 2024.

Evesham Police responded to an open 911 call at 2:24 AM on the first block of Brookfield Avenue, initially reported as an argument where one party was armed. Upon arrival, officers encountered gunfire from within the residence, although no shots were fired by law enforcement.

The situation escalated as the suspect barricaded himself inside the home, prompting the intervention of the New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit, specialists in handling such high-risk incidents. After approximately six hours, the standoff ended peacefully with Fox’s surrender and no injuries to police or civilians.

A subsequent search of the residence led to the recovery of several firearms and other evidence. Additionally, it was discovered that a neighboring home had been struck by gunfire during the incident.

The Evesham Police Department, in conjunction with the Burlington Prosecutor’s Office, is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Residents in the vicinity are urged to report any damage from gunfire to the Evesham Police Department.
