WOODBRIDGE, VA – A tragic incident occurred early Monday morning when a 17-year-old male juvenile was fatally shot at Misty Ridge Apartments, located in the 15000 block of Lost Canyon Court, Woodbridge, Virginia. The shooting happened at approximately 12:44 AM, according to Prince William County police.
Responding officers found the victim in an outdoor stairwell with gunshot wounds. Despite immediate first aid provided by the officers, the juvenile was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The initial investigation suggests the suspect fled the scene on foot immediately after the incident. A comprehensive search involving a police K-9 unit and a Fairfax County police helicopter ensued, but the suspect remains at large.
The incident led to a stray bullet striking an apartment within the complex, though fortunately, no additional injuries or significant property damage was reported. Investigators are currently working to establish the motives behind the shooting, which preliminarily does not appear to be random.
