Jackson Township, NJ – New owners are eyeing the Jackson Four Boys Ice Cream shop, and now they’re asking residents for advice.
Correction: we wrote that Four Boys was sold, but it was only put up for sale and not closed down. It has been corrected.
Jackson has gone through periods of ice cream availability starting back with the Carvel on County Line Road, then the invasion of the short-lived fro-yo era when there was a frozen yogurt shop on every corner.
For any business owner serving food in Jackson, it’s a risky investment given the changing demographics, but Mangia is one of the town’s most-loved Italian spots, and if anyone can make it work, it’s Cangiano and his team at Mangia.
A popular Jackson Township restaurant could soon expand into the local dessert business as the owners of Mangia consider opening a new ice cream shop at the Four Boys Ice Cream location.
Sean Caggiano, speaking on behalf of Mangia of Jackson, announced this week that the family is seriously considering leasing the vacant storefront, but emphasized that no final decision has been made.
“Our family has been part of the Jackson community for 11 years now, and honestly, we can’t thank you enough for that,” Caggiano wrote in a social media post. “We’ve never owned or run Four Boys, but we’re seriously thinking about taking over the spot and starting something completely new.”
Community input sought before moving forward
Rather than simply reopening the business under the existing brand, Caggiano said the concept would feature a new name, new products, and a redesigned space aimed at local families.
“We think this side of Jackson deserves a really good neighborhood ice cream shop,” he said. “But before we make any decisions, we want to hear from you.”
Mangia is asking residents to share what they’d like to see if the project moves forward. Among the ideas being considered are premium hard ice cream, soft serve, frozen yogurt, sundaes, milkshakes, dairy-free options, ice cream cakes, take-home pints, indoor and outdoor seating, online ordering, and credit card payments.
No final decision has been made
Caggiano stressed that the proposal remains in the planning stage and that the family is gathering feedback before deciding whether to purchase the property.
“Nothing is set in stone yet,” he wrote. “We’re just listening and trying to figure out what would work best for the whole community.”
If completed, the project would bring a new locally owned ice cream destination to the former Four Boys site, a longtime seasonal stop for residents on Jackson Township’s east side.
The possible investment would keep a well-known commercial property operating as an ice cream destination while introducing a new concept from a local business that has served the Jackson community for more than a decade.
