Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Friday that multiple agencies are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The crash occurred Tuesday at approximately 10:56 p.m., when officers from the Manalapan Police Department responded to the southbound lanes of Route 9 near 355 Route 9 and Russell Court. Authorities said the incident involved a 2018 Nissan Frontier driven by a male motorist and a female pedestrian.

Victim identified, driver remained at scene

According to a preliminary investigation, the Nissan Frontier was traveling in the left lane of Route 9 South when it struck the pedestrian, propelling her onto the right shoulder of the roadway. The victim, identified as 72-year-old Deborah Ross, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:26 p.m.

Officials said the driver remained at the scene following the collision. No additional details about the driver have been released, and investigators have not indicated whether speed, visibility, or other factors contributed to the crash.
