BRIDGETON, N.J. — Law enforcement agencies in southern New Jersey are investigating the fatal shooting of a Cumberland County detective during a home invasion late Tuesday night. The victim, identified as Monica Mosley, 51, a sergeant with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, was killed during the incident at her residence on Buckshutem Road.

Bridgeton Police responded to the 600 block of Buckshutem Rd. around 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of multiple individuals kicking in the front door of the home.

Upon arrival, officers found Mosley suffering from gunshot wounds. Bridgeton Chief of Police Michael Gaimari confirmed that Mosley succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Investigators later tracked the case to Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton and then to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where one person was detained for questioning after being treated for a gunshot wound.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity, and no arrests or charges have been announced as of this morning.

The investigation is being conducted by the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Bureau, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bridgeton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau. Further details have not been made available as the probe continues.
