POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Two individuals were arrested early Wednesday during a drug raid at a Poughkeepsie apartment, where authorities seized fentanyl, cocaine, and drug packaging materials, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office announced.
The arrests followed a weeks-long investigation by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force, which acted on community complaints about narcotics activity at 60 Carroll Street, a large apartment building on the city’s south side. Investigators identified 39-year-old Stephen Bai as a fentanyl dealer operating out of an apartment in the building.
Undercover agents made several purchases of fentanyl from Bai, which led to a search warrant being issued by the City of Poughkeepsie Court. On December 4, Drug Task Force Agents, assisted by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit, executed the warrant and arrested Bai. Inside his apartment, authorities found fentanyl, cocaine, scales, and packaging materials used in drug sales.
During the raid, police also arrested Angela Martinez, 38, who was inside the apartment and had an active arrest warrant for felony drug possession. Martinez was additionally found in possession of crack cocaine in quantities classified as a felony under state law.
Bai has been charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a class B felony. He was arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and released in accordance with New York State bail laws. Authorities said additional charges against Bai are pending.
Martinez faces charges of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony, in addition to being processed on her outstanding warrant by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police after her arraignment.
