WASHINGTON, D.C. — Five juveniles were taken into custody Wednesday night after committing two armed carjackings within an hour in Northeast D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The first incident occurred at approximately 9:10 p.m. on May 7 in the 2400 block of 4th Street NE. The victim had just parked and exited their 2013 white Toyota Camry when multiple suspects approached. One suspect brandished a firearm and demanded the keys. The victim complied, and the suspects fled in the stolen vehicle.
Exactly one hour later, in the 1400 block of Otis Street NE, a second victim was targeted in a nearly identical manner. As the victim exited their 2017 silver Honda Accord, multiple suspects approached. One displayed a weapon and demanded the victim’s keys and money. The suspects fled in the second stolen vehicle.
Police recover vehicles, arrest five juveniles after foot chase
Fifth District officers immediately canvassed the area and requested aerial support from MPD’s helicopter, Falcon 1. MPD’s Real Time Crime Center distributed images of both stolen vehicles, which were soon spotted in the 1200 block of 3rd Street NE.
When officers converged on the scene, all five suspects attempted to flee on foot. They were apprehended shortly afterward by responding units.
Those arrested include two 16-year-old males from Southeast D.C., two 15-year-old males, and one 14-year-old male from Northeast D.C. Each has been charged with two counts of Armed Carjacking (Gun).
Officers recovered both stolen vehicles, a black water gun made to resemble a rifle, and an imitation Glock-style handgun.
