Florida Mother Who Jumped Off I-95 Bridge Charged for Killing Her Children

August 25, 2024

MIAMI, Fla. — After a lengthy investigation, Florida authorities have formally charged a mother with aggravated manslaughter in the deaths of her 3-year-old twin children. The charges against Shirlene N. Alcime, 43, come months after the tragic incident, which took place on February 2.

Miami-Dade police responded to a distress call on Interstate 95, where Alcime had reportedly jumped off the expressway wall onto the train tracks below as officers arrived. Although she survived the fall, her children, Milendhet and Milendhere Napoleon-Cadet, were found unresponsive in the backseat of a nearby vehicle. The 3-year-old twins, who were foaming at the mouth, were pronounced dead shortly after being discovered.

Authorities have stated that Alcime denied giving her children anything to cause their condition. However, she reportedly admitted that her family was facing severe financial difficulties and expressed concerns about the children’s welfare if left alone with their father, fearing they would become “homeless or sleeping in a car.”

In a chilling account provided by officers, Alcime confessed to considering drastic actions to end her life and her children’s lives. “The defendant admitted to contemplating jumping off the bridge with both victims or throwing them off one by one and then jumping to end their lives,” the police report stated.

Before the incident, Alcime allegedly took the twins to McDonald’s and Chuck E. Cheese in an effort to give them “a good day.” Despite the seriousness of the case, prosecutors have opted to charge Alcime with aggravated manslaughter rather than murder.

Alcime is currently facing an aggravated manslaughter charge, as confirmed by NBC Miami affiliate WTVJ. The investigation into the deaths of Milendhet and Milendhere Napoleon-Cadet continues, and further details have yet to be released by authorities.
