A violent domestic dispute inside a Tallahassee apartment left a man injured and a woman facing an attempted murder charge after an argument over property escalated into an alleged knife attack, according to police.
TALLAHASSEE, FL – A fight over a television and personal belongings turned violent on April 11 when Teariney Dixon, 37, allegedly attacked her boyfriend with a knife and attempted to cut his hair during a confrontation inside his apartment. The Tallahassee Police Department said the incident left “blood all over the apartment” when officers arrived on scene.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the boyfriend called police reporting that Dixon was “destroying his apartment” and that the argument had become physical. He later told officers that Dixon “cut him with a knife” but declined medical treatment.
Escalation captured on video
The affidavit states the dispute began when the boyfriend accused Dixon of seeing another man and told her to leave the apartment. She refused, and the confrontation escalated into a physical altercation that was captured on surveillance video inside the home.
Investigators said Dixon allegedly punched the man in the face before locking him out of his own apartment. After he forced his way back inside by kicking the door down, police say Dixon was holding a kitchen knife with a 5- to 7-inch blade.
While armed, Dixon reportedly said she would not leave without items she believed belonged to her, including a purse and a television. When the boyfriend disputed ownership of the purse and emptied its contents, Dixon allegedly began making slashing motions, cutting his finger.
Police said Dixon then grabbed the man by his hair and attempted to cut off his dreadlocks while still holding the knife. The struggle continued until the boyfriend was able to take the knife away and return it to the kitchen.
Arrest and charges
After the incident, Dixon left the apartment and returned to her own residence. Officers located her later that same night and conducted an interview after advising her of her rights.
According to police, Dixon acknowledged the argument over belongings but claimed she could not remember the full sequence of events and denied attempting to kill her boyfriend.
She was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Jail records show Dixon was booked into the Tallahassee Detention Center on April 11 and released on bond the following day. Her next court appearance has not been listed.
