Florida woman stabbed man she just met online in the neck after he called her ‘retarded’ inside her home

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A 22-year-old woman was arrested early Sunday after police say she stabbed a man in the back of the neck during an altercation inside her home, according to a newly filed arrest affidavit.

Officers with the Homestead Police Department responded to a residence on SE 35th Avenue around 9 p.m. Saturday, where they found a man suffering from a stab wound to his neck. The victim was rushed to Jackson South Medical Center for treatment.

Investigators later identified the suspect as Zaryanna Renee Marshall, who was taken into custody at the same address just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday. She is facing a charge of attempted felony murder, according to court records.

The victim told detectives he had met Marshall on social media just two days earlier and had stayed overnight at her residence. An argument reportedly broke out when the victim tried to leave. According to the affidavit, Marshall began going through the man’s pockets in search of rolling papers. When the man insulted her, she allegedly armed herself with a knife and stabbed him once in the neck.

A police reported documented the exchange, “The victim told the subject she was retarded and the subject replied, ‘You wanna see retarded? The subject then armed herself with a knife and stabbed the victim once in the back of the neck.”

Detectives said the victim later identified Marshall from a photographic lineup. During questioning, Marshall claimed she acted in self-defense, saying the man had punched her in the face. Police noted, however, that she had no visible injuries.

Marshall is currently being held at the Miami-Dade County Jail without bond, pending a court appearance.
