Former FBI Agent Charged with Weapons Offenses in New York City

October 17, 2024

Queens, Ny – Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz has announced charges against Scott Chiang for criminal possession of numerous weapons. Court-authorized searches of locations in Queens Village and Port Washington revealed 18 illegal firearms, including ghost guns and assault weapons, as well as high-capacity magazines and gun manufacturing tools. Chiang, a former FBI agent, is currently an EMT and leads the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council of New York.

DA Katz highlighted the dangers posed by ghost guns and stated that her office will persist in eliminating illegal firearms. According to the Attorney’s Office, confiscated weapons would otherwise have posed a threat to communities had they not been intercepted.

Chiang was arraigned on Friday under a 242-count criminal complaint, facing charges including criminal possession and sale of firearms, as well as endangering child welfare. He remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on October 31. If convicted, Chiang could face a maximum sentence of 25 years.

An extensive investigation was conducted by multiple agencies into Chiang’s acquisition of untraceable firearm components. The searches on October 10 discovered both completed firearms and a significant number of parts capable of being assembled into operable weapons.
