Yonkers, NY – A lost dog discovered wandering the streets on Easter Sunday is now safe at a local shelter, as authorities work to locate its owner. The Yonkers Police Department shared the alert after the animal was found in a residential area and brought in for care.

The dog, described by officers as friendly, was located near Glenwood Avenue and Warburton Avenue earlier in the day. After being secured, the animal was transported to the Yonkers Animal Shelter, where it is currently being housed.

Dog nicknamed “Peep” as search for owner continues

“We found this sweet girl today! Since it’s Easter Sunday, we’ve been calling her Peep,” the Yonkers Police Department said in a social media post. “Peep was found wandering the streets in the area of Glenwood and Warburton Avenue.”

Officials are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the dog and reconnecting her with her family. No identification details, such as a collar or microchip status, were immediately released.

Shelter provides contact information for pickup

“Peep has been safely transported to the Yonkers Animal Shelter,” police said. “If you recognize her or know who her family is, please contact the Yonkers Animal Shelter directly to identify and collect her.”
