Four dead and dozens injured in georgia school shooting

WINDER, Ga. — At least four people were killed and around 30 others injured in a shooting at Apalachee High School on Wednesday, according to law enforcement sources. Authorities said it remains unclear how many of the injuries were from gunfire.

A suspect is in custody, though officials have not confirmed if the individual is a student at the school. The high school, located about an hour northeast of Atlanta, went into lockdown shortly after the incident. Local law enforcement stated that all schools in the district were locked down as a precautionary measure.

Video footage from outside the school showed several ambulances and a large police presence. Students were evacuated to the football stadium during the lockdown. Grady Health System in Atlanta received at least one gunshot victim by helicopter, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith cautioned that it may take days to fully understand what led to the shooting. “We are asking for your patience … please let us get the facts that we need to make sure we get this right,” he said at a news conference Wednesday.
