Frederick crash leaves two dead after overnight collision near S. East Street roundabout

A late-night crash in Frederick turned fatal early Friday, leaving two people dead and prompting an ongoing investigation into what led to the collision. The incident unfolded just before 1 a.m., drawing multiple agencies to the scene near a busy roadway junction.

FREDERICK, MD – At approximately 12:53 a.m., officers with the Frederick Police Department responded to the area of S. East Street and the roundabout at the request of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office for a motor vehicle crash involving injuries. By the time emergency crews arrived, the situation had escalated into a fatal incident.

Crash investigation underway

“The Frederick Police Department is currently conducting the crash reconstruction investigation,” the department stated. Officials have not released details about how many vehicles were involved or what may have caused the crash.

“Two fatalities have been confirmed as a result of the crash,” according to the department’s statement. Authorities said no additional information will be made public at this stage.

Notification pending for victims

Officials emphasized that details about the victims are being withheld as they work to notify next of kin. “No additional information will be released at this time pending next of kin notification,” the department said.
