Silver Spring woman wins $168K lottery jackpot during quick gas station stop
SILVER SPRING, MD — A routine stop for gas in Montgomery County turned into a six-figure payday after a Silver Spring woman bought a FAST PLAY lottery ticket and walked away with a jackpot worth more than $168,000.
The woman stopped at Georgia Fuel and Treats on April 22 to fill her gas tank when she decided to purchase a few lottery games, including a $10 FAST PLAY High Roller Blackjack ticket.
After scanning the ticket at the counter, she received a message showing she had won — but at first she thought it was only a smaller prize.
“I was shocked that it was $168,860,” the winner told Maryland Lottery officials.
Still trying to process the unexpected windfall, the woman calmly drove home and scanned the ticket again using the Maryland Lottery app to confirm the amount.
The Silver Spring resident, who works in the medical field, said she waited several weeks before claiming the prize because she wanted to ensure all of her paperwork was in order.
She officially claimed the jackpot Tuesday at Maryland Lottery headquarters.
The winner said she plans to use the money to purchase a condominium and place some of the winnings into savings.
Georgia Fuel and Treats, located at 9336 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket.
Maryland Lottery officials said the FAST PLAY High Roller Blackjack game still has 25 progressive jackpots remaining.
