Greensburg woman sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty but mentally ill in attempted child attempted murder

GREENSBURG, Pa. — A Greensburg woman who pleaded guilty but mentally ill to multiple charges, including attempted homicide of a child, was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison followed by five years of probation, officials said.

Skye Naggy, 32, entered her plea in January to charges of attempted homicide, aiding suicide, aggravated assault, kidnapping, interference with child custody, and endangering the welfare of a child. She will continue to receive mental health treatment while serving her sentence.

Naggy was charged in November 2022 after police discovered handwritten letters she had left behind. In the notes, she claimed she needed a powerful opioid to protect herself and the child, and said she believed she had received a message from God that her death was imminent.

Authorities located Naggy and the child in a wooded area near a trail by Loyalhanna Lake after tracking her cellphone. Medical tests later confirmed the child had fentanyl and other opiates in their system. The child survived and is now in the care of a relative.

Judge imposes lengthy prison term with mental health provisions

Common Pleas Judge Christopher Feliciani handed down the sentence in Westmoreland County Court, ordering that Naggy serve her sentence in state prison while continuing to undergo mental health treatment.

No further charges are pending, and the child’s condition has since stabilized under family care.
