Grocery Run Turns Into $1M Jackpot for Cecil Shopper

ELKTON, Md. — A Cecil County woman walked away from a local grocery store with far more than a shopping bag after winning a $1 million top prize on a Lucky 777 scratch-off ticket, Maryland Lottery officials confirmed Friday.

The winning ticket was purchased at Acme Markets, located at 101 Big Elk Mall in Elkton. Before shopping, the winner stopped at the store’s Lottery vending machine, scratched her ticket on-site, and uncovered a black seven symbol revealing the million-dollar payout.

The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, contacted her husband immediately after discovering the prize and managed to stay calm inside the store to avoid drawing attention. She told Lottery officials she plans to donate part of her winnings, travel, and make home improvements.

Acme Markets will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

Lucky 777 still offering top prizes

The Lucky 777 scratch-off game launched on May 19 with six top prizes of $1 million and eight $50,000 prizes. According to Lottery officials, four $1 million prizes and six $50,000 prizes remain, along with hundreds of thousands of smaller prizes ranging from $20 to $10,000.

Winners are reminded to sign their tickets immediately and claim prizes according to Lottery procedures.

The Maryland Lottery has not released any further details on the winner’s plans.
