BINGHAMTON, NY – The New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team made a significant historical discovery in the Susquehanna River during a dive in November in the City of Binghamton.

Trooper Kristopher Harris located a large, ornate metallic placard in about 15 feet of water. This artifact, dating back to the turn of the century (1899-1900), was identified as a bridge placard from the old Route 7 bridge, also known as Tompkins Street. Remarkably preserved, the iron placard reflects a piece of local history.

The placard has been donated to the Roberson Museum, demonstrating the commitment of the New York State Police to preserving historical artifacts. This discovery was celebrated by team members, including Chief Technical Sergeant Neil Case, URT Division Diving Officer, Roberson Museum representative Shannon Lindridge, Trooper Harris, and Troop C Senior Diver, Technical Sergeant Seth Little.
