Home renovation turns violent as machete wielding suspect arrested in Pasadena robbery

Montgomery County man arrested in targeted Pasadena robbery

PASADENA, MD — A 45-year-old man renovating his Pasadena home was led to his basement at machete and gunpoint during an armed robbery, and now a Montgomery County man has been arrested in connection with the attack.

The robbery occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. Feb. 9 in the 300 block of Caldwell Road. Investigators said the victim was working on renovations when a male suspect approached and asked to see the inside of the home.

After being led to the basement, the suspect allegedly brandished a machete and a handgun and demanded money. Police said the suspect stole the victim’s cellphone and bank card before punching him and fleeing in a black vehicle.

Paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Detectives with the Anne Arundel County Police Eastern District continued investigating and developed a suspect. On Thursday, officers located and arrested Nelson Alexander Martinez, 51, of Wheaton, in Montgomery County without incident.

Police said preliminary circumstances indicate the robbery was targeted and not a random act.

The investigation remains ongoing.
