Hyattsville gas stop leads to $100K lottery win for Prince George’s man

Scratch-off purchase during fuel stop turns into six-figure prize in Maryland

HYATTSVILLE, Md. – A routine stop for gas turned into a $100,000 windfall for a Prince George’s County man who decided on a whim to buy a scratch-off ticket while filling up his tank.

The New Carrollton resident purchased the $10 Red 5’s Doubler ticket at a Shell station on Annapolis Road, then scratched it inside the store, where he quickly realized he had landed the game’s top prize.

“While I was pumping the gas I thought, ‘why not grab a scratch-off game’,” the winner said. “So, I filled up, went inside, pointed at a game and asked the cashier to give me that one.”

Winning moment confirmed inside store

After scratching the ticket, the man scanned it to confirm what he was seeing.
