Jackson Township officials, past and present, hosted a memorial service at the Jackson Veterans Memorial with the Jackson VFW Post 4703 and the Jackson Township Veterans Commission.
Former Jackson Mayor Ken Bressi, a Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran and co-founder of the memorial garden, donned his dress blues and spoke before the crowd of about 100 at the service.
Bressi thanked everyone for attending and thanked veterans who served the country and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Bressi, a former mayor and councilman said the Jackson Veterans Memorial Garden is a tribute to all veterans who served, not just combat veterans, noting that anyone who served made a sacrifice for the country.
Jackson Township Council President Kuhn thanked all of the veterans in attendance for their dedication and service to the country.
Assemblyman Robert Clifton, Councilman Mordechai Burnstein, Councilman Nino Borelli, and Councilman Chisholm were in attendance. Councilman Mordechai Burnstein noted the importance of Veterans’ Day and thanked the VFW, the Veterans Commission, and the VFW for their annual service to Jackson Township.
The Jackson Veterans Memorial Garden is at the intersection of Jackson Mills Road and East Commodore Boulevard. It features a pentagon-shaped walkway adorned with flowers and memorials to local veterans under the five flags representing America’s branches of the armed forces, a New Jersey state flag a towering American flag over a POW/MIA flag, and pillars representing the memorials. Benches in memory of local veterans provide a space for family members and residents to sit and reflect on Jackson’s veterans’ sacrifices.
“I was honored to join our veterans, fellow residents and Council members at this year’s Veterans Day ceremony at the beautiful Veteran’s Memorial Park and Garden in our town,” said Councilman Nino Borrelli. “Thank You to All our military veterans who served or who are currently serving our great country. Can’t thank them enough for the sacrifices they made in service to our country and for defending our freedoms and protecting our way of life in America. God Bless America and God Bless Jackson, one of the most patriotic towns around.”
