Jackson Township, NJ — The decorative rotary clock located in front of Jackson Township Town Hall was accidentally damaged during snow removal operations earlier this year and will need to be replaced, according to the township’s Department of Public Works.
In a memorandum released by Public Works Superintendent Shawn Bolinsky, township officials said the damage occurred during snow removal in February. The clock was removed from its location because of safety concerns and is currently being stored at the Department of Public Works facility.
Clock deemed beyond repair
Bolinsky said the township researched vendors capable of repairing the clock but determined that the damage was too extensive.
“I researched potential vendors to repair the clock; however, based on the extent of the damage, it has been determined that the clock cannot be repaired and will require replacement,” Bolinsky wrote in the memo.
The superintendent also emphasized that the clock was not intentionally removed.
“The clock was not intentionally removed but was taken down solely because of the damage sustained during snow removal operations,” he wrote.
Insurance claim to determine replacement
Because of the cost of replacing the decorative clock, Jackson Township plans to submit an insurance claim before purchasing a new unit.
According to the memo, the township will wait for an insurance adjuster to inspect the damage and determine the replacement value before moving forward with acquiring a new clock.
The clock was donated to the township by the Jackson Township Rotary Club and has stood outside Town Hall as a local landmark for years.
