Jackson Township is mourning the loss of one of our township council members

The Jackson Township Council is saddened to report the passing Councilman Scott David Sargent.

Councilman Sargent has been a lifelong public servant from his career in the U.S. Navy to his long career where he served as the public safety coordinator for the Jackson Department of Public Works until his retirement.

Prior to joining the council, Councilman Sargent had served on the Jackson Board of Education for many years, devoting his time to improving the quality and level of education for our town.

Councilman Sargent was a role model for the Jackson community and always put Jackson Township first in everything he did.

“We are saddened to share the news of the passing of Councilman Scott Sargent. Scott was a dedicated public servant and a cherished member of our community, with a commitment to both the Jackson Township Council and the Board of Education that inspired many,” said Council President Jennifer Kuhn. “His contributions to our town touched the lives of countless residents, and his legacy will live on through the positive changes he championed during his time in service. Whether you knew him personally or appreciated his efforts from afar, his impact on the community will be felt for years to come. We encourage everyone to take a moment to remember Scott and the invaluable role he played in our lives and our town. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

“I had the privilege of working alongside Scott on both the Jackson Township Council and the Board of Education,” said Councilman Giuseppe Palmeri. “He was a dedicated public servant and a devoted family man, and someone who truly cared about the town. Scott worked hard for our schools, supported our first responders, and always looked out for Jackson residents. He served with heart, integrity, and a genuine love for this community.”

“I am saddened learn of the passing of my dear friend, Jackson Councilman Scott Sargent. Scott served this country and town and was a true public servant,” Councilman Mordechai Burnstein said. “Scott was known throughout the township for his dedication to all residents through the multiple areas of public service in which he served in. Whether on the Board of Education and later on the Township Council, Scott was always there to help everyone. Scott didn’t shy away from doing the right thing and believed that public service was just about doing what is right, no matter what, and no matter how. On a personal level, Scott was a big part of my decision to be involved in public service and served as both a friend and mentor. Scott was always available to answer my questions and had a clear understanding of so many different issues. My entire family will miss our friend Scott, and we send his wife, children and entire family our deepest condolences.”

Scott was the epitome of what a public servant should be, dedicating his life to serving our town & country, working selflessly to make our community a better place for all even when his health was failing him. Gone too soon. Now he’s at peace. He will be missed!”
