Clinton Township, NJ – A 17-year-old from Clinton Township, NJ, is facing charges following a fatal car crash that occurred on August 22 in Franklin Township. The accident resulted in the death of 16-year-old Sophia Detorres of Franklin Township.
On that Thursday at around 7:30 a.m., Franklin Township Police and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Fatal Crash Team responded to a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Hogback Road, Route 617, and Lower Lansdown Road. Investigations revealed the juvenile driver exceeded the speed limit and failed to stop at a stop sign. There were three other juveniles in the vehicle during the crash.
The juvenile has been charged with second-degree death by auto, fourth-degree assault by auto, and two counts of disorderly persons assault by auto. Additionally, on September 6, Franklin Township Police issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, careless driving, and violating probationary licensee conditions.
Second-degree charges could result in up to three years of imprisonment, while fourth-degree charges carry a potential term of up to eighteen months.
