Knife-wielding woman charged with murder after DC man killed

WASHINGTON, DC — A 30-year-old man was fatally stabbed Friday afternoon inside a Southeast Washington apartment, and police have arrested a woman on a second-degree murder charge in connection with the incident, the Metropolitan Police Department announced.

Officers from the Seventh District responded around 2:28 p.m. to a report of a stabbing inside a residence in the 2400 block of Alabama Avenue SE. They found an adult male victim unconscious and not breathing with a stab wound. Despite emergency efforts by DC Fire and EMS, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as Devante Offutt of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Police arrested 25-year-old Deja Hines of Southeast, DC at the scene. A knife was recovered as evidence, according to investigators.

Police say case is domestic-related

Detectives determined the stabbing to be domestic in nature. Hines has been charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

The Metropolitan Police Department did not release additional details about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

Offutt’s death adds to the growing number of homicides under investigation in the District so far this year.
