BALTIMORE, Md. — A Frederick woman’s decision to buy two $5 Scratch-off tickets during a stop at a convenience store turned into a $50K payday after one ticket earned her a spin on the Maryland Lottery’s The Big Spin Wheel.
The player, who used the name “Mom and Dad” for publicity purposes, claimed her prize after spinning the wheel at Maryland Lottery headquarters on July 15.
She said she purchased two THE BIG SPIN Scratch-off tickets while visiting the Royal Farms at 75 Monocacy Blvd. in Frederick. The first ticket was not a winner, but the second revealed a “SPIN” symbol.
After scanning the ticket, she learned she needed to contact the Maryland Lottery to schedule a spin on The Big Spin Wheel in Baltimore.
When she arrived with family members, she discovered every spin on the wheel was worth at least $50K, with a top prize of $250K.
Her spin stopped on the $50K prize.
The winner told Lottery officials she had expected the minimum prize to be much smaller and said she was happy with the outcome.
She plans to use the prize money to buy a new car and new furniture before saving the remaining funds.
The winning ticket was sold at Royal Farms, 75 Monocacy Blvd. in Frederick. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
THE BIG SPIN is a $5 Maryland Lottery Scratch-off game in which players who reveal a “SPIN” symbol qualify for a chance to spin the prize wheel at Lottery headquarters. Each qualifying spin guarantees a prize between $50K and $250K.
According to the Maryland Lottery, two Big Spin Wheel prizes remain available.
