Sumpter Township, MI – A late-night shooting that began with a confrontation outside a Canton movie theater ended with a 40-year-old man wounded and a Wayne County man facing attempted murder charges, police announced Wednesday.

The incident unfolded around 11 p.m. Sunday, when officers responded to the 46000 block of Reed and found the victim suffering from two gunshot wounds — one to the upper chest and a graze wound to the cheek. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

Investigators determined the shooting stemmed from an earlier encounter at the Emagine Theater in Canton, where the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Dominic Michael McBride of Wayne, confronted his ex-girlfriend and another man. McBride allegedly followed the pair for 18 miles to the victim’s residence on Reed.

Police said the victim came outside after being alerted to the situation and ordered McBride to leave. During the exchange, McBride, still seated in his vehicle, allegedly pulled a handgun and fired, striking the victim.

After the shooting, McBride did not flee the area but instead parked nearby and waited for officers to arrive. He was taken into custody without further incident. A handgun believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered.

McBride was arraigned Tuesday in 34th District Court on multiple charges, including assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and felony firearm. His bond was set at $500,000 with a 10% provision and a GPS tether.

His next court date is scheduled for September 24.
