Million-dollar winner hits in Newburgh

Newburgh player wins $1 million Powerball prize with lucky ticket

Newburgh, NY – A Powerball ticket sold in Newburgh has earned its buyer a $1 million payday after matching five numbers in the December 17 drawing, the New York Lottery announced.

The winning second-tier ticket was sold at SMOKES 4 LESS, located at 59 North Plank Road. The ticket matched all five white ball numbers but not the red Powerball, which would have secured the jackpot.

Powerball drawings are held three nights a week and continue to produce major winners across New York. The December 17 draw resulted in three second-prize tickets sold statewide, each worth $1 million.

As always, Powerball prizes must be claimed within one year of the drawing date. Players are encouraged to check their tickets.

The New York Lottery remains the highest-grossing lottery in North America, contributing $3.6 billion to public education in the state during the 2024–2025 fiscal year.
