The shooting occurred just after midnight in the 500 block of Newcomb Street SE. Emergency responders arrived at approximately 12:23 a.m. to find the man unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medical personnel from DC Fire and EMS confirmed the victim showed no signs of life and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The victim was later identified as Alex Alexander of Gaithersburg, Maryland. No arrests have been announced, and no information has been released regarding suspects or a possible motive.

Alexander’s death adds to a growing list of homicides in the District as law enforcement continues to address gun-related incidents throughout Southeast and beyond.
