Pants fall during Stafford chase as suspect arrested at motel

STAFFORD, VA – A late-night arrest in Stafford County took an unusual turn when a man tried to run from deputies but was quickly undone by his own pants.

Around 9:09 p.m. on Thursday, deputies were at the Comfort Inn Motel on Salisbury Drive finishing a report when a woman alerted them to a man behaving inappropriately. The deputies recognized the suspect immediately—he had already been trespassed from the property earlier that day.

When deputies approached and informed him he was under arrest, the man reportedly shouted, “Oh no!” before taking off. His sprint was short-lived. As he ran, his pants began to fall, causing him to trip and tumble. Deputies caught up and made the arrest.

Authorities identified the suspect as 26-year-old Brandon Bates of Stafford. Deputies reported that he showed signs of intoxication, including the odor of alcohol.

Bates was charged with trespassing, attempting to flee law enforcement, obstruction of justice, and public intoxication. He was held at Rappahannock Regional Jail until sober. A booking photo was not released.
