Authorities say additional victims identified as investigation widens in Salisbury-area case.
SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center and Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office announced expanded charges against Russell Lee Camper as investigators identified additional potential victims in an ongoing child sexual abuse case.
Camper was initially charged following an investigation launched March 12 by the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center into allegations involving a minor. Authorities said the case has since broadened significantly, resulting in a multi-count indictment. The Office of the State’s Attorney for Wicomico County is handling prosecution of the case.
Additional victims lead to expanded indictment
According to officials, Camper now faces multiple felony charges, including three counts of sexual abuse of a minor, nine counts of second-degree rape, nine counts of third-degree sexual offense, nine counts of fourth-degree sexual offense, and nine counts of second-degree assault.
Investigators said the alleged abuse occurred several years prior to the initial report. Camper was arrested March 13 without incident and transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
Authorities allege the incidents took place while the victim was a student at Parkside High School. Camper had been employed as an instructional aide by the local Board of Education from 2002 through 2025.
Multi-agency investigation continues
The case involves coordination among multiple agencies, including the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center, Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, Salisbury Police Department, Department of Social Services, and the Life Crisis Center.
Officials said the identification of additional victims reflects the ongoing nature of the investigation and the likelihood that more individuals could come forward. Cases involving alleged abuse by school-affiliated personnel often expand as investigators conduct outreach and review past complaints or contacts.
