Victim knocked unconscious during early morning attack on Washington Street, officials say.
NEWARK, N.J. – The Newark Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help identifying three suspects accused of carrying out a violent aggravated assault outside a downtown lounge earlier this year.
Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. said the attack occurred March 15 at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Washington Street. The victim had been walking toward the Vault Lounge following a prior dispute involving a vehicle when the incident escalated.
Group attack caught on surveillance
According to Newark police, surveillance video shows three male suspects exiting multiple vehicles and approaching the victim before launching a coordinated assault. Investigators said the suspects punched and kicked the victim in the face, ultimately knocking him unconscious.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity or current condition but described the assault as severe.
Police provided descriptions of the three suspects. The first is described as a Black male with a light complexion, facial hair, medium build, and short afro, wearing black-and-white sneakers and a black sweatsuit with white lettering. The second suspect is described as a Black male with a brown complexion wearing a black wave cap and a gray cardigan sweater with floral patterns. The third suspect is described as a Black male with a brown complexion and slim build, wearing a red sweatsuit and blue jeans.
Investigation ongoing as police seek leads
The case is being investigated by the Newark Police Division, which is working to identify and locate the individuals involved. Group assaults tied to disputes or prior confrontations remain a recurring public safety concern in nightlife districts, where incidents can escalate quickly.

Director Miranda is urging anyone with information to come forward. “Anyone with information on the suspects’ identities is asked to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477),” the department said. Tips can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
The investigation remains active, and no arrests have been announced.
