Fairmont Heights man taken into custody on Allegany County bench warrant
CUMBERLAND, MD – A Maryland man is being held without bond after Cumberland Police arrested him Thursday on a months-old warrant alleging he violated probation stemming from a previous drug possession conviction.
Jaron Lajarius Jacob Watkins, 32, of Fairmont Heights, was taken into custody on an active bench warrant, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
The Allegany County District Court issued the warrant May 26.
Police said the warrant alleges Watkins violated the terms and conditions of probation connected to an earlier conviction for controlled dangerous substance possession.
Authorities did not disclose the specific conduct that allegedly resulted in the probation violation.
Following his arrest, Watkins appeared before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance.
He was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center, where police said he was being held without bond.
Watkins faces a bench warrant charge for violation of probation.
The allegation remains subject to court proceedings.
