La Plata, MD – A 27-year-old man is facing multiple murder charges after investigators say a deadly shooting unfolded inside a moving vehicle, leaving one man dead and another victim injured before the suspect fled across state lines.

Dayton James Webber, of La Plata, has been charged in Charles County with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and use of a firearm in a violent felony following the death of Bradrick Michael Wells, also 27. Authorities say the shooting happened late Sunday night and was reported after witnesses flagged down police.

According to court documents, officers were alerted around 10:35 p.m. near Radio Station Road and La Plata Road, where witnesses described a violent confrontation inside a vehicle.

Witnesses describe shooting during moving vehicle dispute

Charging documents state that Webber had picked up multiple individuals in a white Tesla, with the victim seated in the front passenger seat. Witnesses told investigators an argument escalated while the car was in motion.

“During the argument, Webber pulled a gun out and shot the victim twice in the head,” one witness told investigators, according to court filings.

The same witness said Webber later pulled the vehicle over and asked others in the car to remove the victim, but they refused and exited the vehicle. Another witness reported hearing a gunshot during the dispute before also leaving and later contacting police.

Authorities said both witnesses identified Webber as the shooter.

Victim discovered hours later; suspect found in Virginia

Investigators say the victim’s body was discovered nearly two hours later by a resident on Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall, who called 911 after finding the man with visible head injuries.

Law enforcement later tracked Webber to Charlottesville, Virginia, where his vehicle was located. He was found at a nearby hospital seeking treatment for an unrelated medical issue and was taken into custody after being released.

Webber was arrested as a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition back to Maryland, where he is expected to face the full list of charges.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing and is asking anyone with additional information to come forward.
