Teens busted in broad daylight school route attack in Northeast DC
Washington, DC – A quiet afternoon walk home from school turned violent in Northeast as three young teens allegedly ambushed a student in an attempted robbery that left the victim injured and a neighborhood shaken.
The incident happened on a Tuesday afternoon, October 28, around 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Q Street, Northeast. According to officials, three juveniles confronted the victim while they were walking home, demanded property, and when the victim refused, began physically assaulting them. The suspects failed to steal anything and fled the area, leaving the victim with minor injuries.
Over the past three days, authorities executed arrests connected to the attack. On Sunday, a 12-year-old boy from Northeast DC was taken into custody. The following day, a 13-year-old boy from Southeast DC was arrested. Then on Tuesday, a 14-year-old boy, also from Southeast, was taken into custody. All three were charged with Assault with Intent to Commit Robbery under DC Superior Court Pre-Petition custody orders.
The arrests come nearly seven weeks after the violent attempted robbery, which sparked concern among residents and parents in the neighborhood. Police say the teens targeted the victim specifically during after-school hours, a time when many students make their way home alone.
No weapons were reported during the assault, and the suspects did not successfully take any items from the victim. The victim’s injuries did not require hospitalization.
All three juveniles remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
