NEW YORK, NY — Police in Midtown Manhattan recently arrested two individuals near the Row Hotel in connection with alleged shoplifting operations involving thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise, according to authorities.
Officers from the NYPD Times Square Public Safety team first detained a migrant found carrying a duffel bag filled with stolen items. The merchandise, reportedly worth several thousand dollars, still had store tags and security alarms attached, officials said.
Earlier in the day, officers apprehended another individual allegedly selling stolen sunglasses valued at thousands of dollars, part of what authorities describe as a coordinated effort targeting high-end retailers across the city.
Officials allege that organized groups, involving migrants and others, are behind these thefts, with stolen goods being resold either on the streets or through black market channels. Police have not provided additional details about the suspects or charges filed in these incidents.
The NYPD continues to investigate the growing trend of organized retail thefts as local businesses voice concern over increasing losses.
