NORTH WILDWOOD, NJ — An alarming incident prompted the evacuation of Surfside Pier along the Wildwood boardwalk on Saturday evening. The evacuation occurred between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., following a tense situation where a man brandished a firearm.

According to a spokesperson from Morey’s Piers, which owns Surfside Pier, the evacuation was carried out as a precautionary measure at the request of the local police. Authorities quickly responded to the situation, and the individual involved was taken into custody without any injuries reported.

The North Wildwood Police Department did not release any details on the matter.

“The North Wildwood Police Department is aware of an incident occurring in our jurisdiction circulating on social media. The incident resulted in an increase of law enforcement personnel in the area of Moreys Pier to include evacuation of the pier.” the department said. “That incident has since concluded and there is no threat or concern for public safety. We would like to thank the public for their understanding.”

Fortunately, no one was harmed during the incident, and the pier was safely reopened to the public shortly thereafter. The quick response by police ensured the safety of all visitors and staff during the potentially dangerous situation.
